Hi, I'm Tilly — I make small creatures with big opinions, and this is the corner of the internet where I keep all of them. Felt Fox started as a fox mail carrier doodled in the margins of a childhood sketchbook, and somehow grew into a full website of amigurumi patterns, needle felting tutorials, and craft projects for anyone who'd rather spend an evening with a hook or a felting needle than a remote control. If you're here, you probably already know the feeling of finishing a stitch and thinking, "just one more row." You're in the right place.

How Felt Fox Began

I'm Matilda Voss — Tilly to everyone except official paperwork. I grew up in Duluth, Minnesota, the only child of two librarians, in a house where long winters meant tall stacks of books and evenings that revolved around making something with your hands. I drew constantly, almost always animals with jobs and strong personalities, and one recurring character — a fox delivering letters through the snow — eventually gave this site its name.

I studied illustration in college, focused on character design, and spent five years as a freelance children's book and editorial illustrator. I loved inventing characters but grew restless keeping them flat on paper. In 2020, stuck inside during another Minnesota winter, I needle felted my first fox out of a leftover wool batt, and something clicked. Flat drawings became small, huggable, slightly lopsided creatures — and I was hooked for good.

Who's Behind the Needle

These days I work out of a plant-crowded studio apartment above a bakery in Minneapolis — so my craft room permanently smells like sourdough and wool, which honestly feels appropriate. I share the space with roughly sixty houseplants, a toothless senior rescue rabbit named Clover, and a shelf I've nicknamed "the waiting room," reserved for unfinished projects that are absolutely, definitely getting finished soon.

Felt Fox isn't a big faceless operation. It's me, my sketchbooks, a rotating cast of community testers, and a genuine belief that a slightly wonky first amigurumi is something to celebrate, not hide. Our Mission

I want Felt Fox to be the site I wished existed when I first picked up a felting needle: encouraging without being vague, detailed without being overwhelming, and genuinely fun to read even before you've threaded a single stitch. Every pattern here is designed the way I used to draw picture books — sketch first, stitch second — so the character comes through before the technique ever gets complicated.
